What is Runny Nose:

A runny nose is a very common and annoying problem. It occurs when there is increased mucus in the sinus and nasal passages. The increased mucus production is the body's way of flushing cold or flu viruses, irritants and allergens out of the body.

Runny nose is excess drainage, which may range from a clear fluid to thick mucus, produced by the nasal and adjacent tissues and blood vessels in the nose. The drainage of runny nose may run out of your nose or down the back of your throat or both. Here are some symptoms causes and remedies for how to stop runny nose.

* Prepare with a cup of warm water and mixed with one tea spoon of honey with equal amount of lemon juice or two slices of lemon pieces.

* Try not to sit in air-conditioner room for too long when one is having a runny nose as this will worsen the situation. Keep yourself warm always and wear a jacket when needed.

* Putting plain heated mustard oil in the nostrils through a dropper is another popular natural cure for Runny Nose. Use this oil on one nostril at a time as it has a strong smell.

* Another helpful runny nose remedy is water and salt solution. To use this solution simply put a few drops into your nostrils and gently blow your nose. Although this can be an irritating procedure, when you get used to it, you can easily obtain relief from runny nose.

* Try to avoid pets and carpets.

Acne Treatment

01:22 PM      No Comment    126 views

What is Acne:

Your skin has tiny holes called pores that can become blocked by oil bacteria and dirt. When this occurs you may develop a pimple or zit. If your skin is repeatedly affected by this condition you may have acne. Acne is not a life threatening condition it can be painful, particularly when it is severe. It can also cause emotional distress.

Acne medically known as acne vulgaris is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. It commonly occurs during puberty when the sebaceous (oil) glands come to life the glands are stimulated by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both males and females.

acne-treatment- (1)

What Causes Acne:

The cause of acne is not fully understood. Though stress can aggravate acne, it clearly does not cause it.

Hormones. Common acne in teenagers starts with an increase in hormone production. During puberty, both boys and girls produce high levels of androgens, the male sex hormones that include testosterone. Testosterone signals the body to make more sebum, the oil produced in the skin's oil glands.

Acne Symptoms:

If you have mild or moderate acne, you may have greasy skin and spots (such as blackheads) on your face, back, chest and shoulders. Red or yellow spots (pustules) can form if your skin becomes inflamed (swollen). Sometimes, spots that have become inflamed (pustules, nodules and cysts) may be painful, tender to touch and hot. In very severe acne, cysts may join together to form larger, deeper inflamed areas (acne conglobata), but this is rare.

Acne Home Remedies:

1. Wash your face (or other affected skin) gently one or two times a day.

2.Use fresh mint juice to apply on your Acne face.

3. Strawberry leaves can also help to reduce the pimple swelling.

4. Boiling water with three tea bags and Basil.  Use a cotton ball to put this mixture on the adult acne.

5. Apply egg whites to the acne and remove in a couple of hours.

6. Mix turmeric powder with some mint juice before applying on the acne. Wash it off with clean, lukewarm water after about 30 mins.

7. Make a paste with cucumber before using it as a facial mask. Leave the mask on for 30 mins daily. Doing this will prevent acne from breaking out.

8. Do not squeeze pimples, because that often leads to infections, worse acne, and scars.

9. Use a moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out. Choose one that says "noncomedogenic" on the label.

10. Use over-the-counter medicated creams, soaps, lotions, and gels to treat your acne. Always read the label carefully to make sure you are using the product correctly.

Preventing Acne:

There are various preventative measures that may prevent or reduce acne flare-ups. Examples include:

• To prevent the incidence of scarring never squeeze or pick acne lesions.

• Establish a daily skin-care regimen which includes cleansing the skin with a soft wash cloth warm water and an appropriate facial soap at least twice a day.

• Use only oil-free skin and hair care products.

• Avoid scrubbing the skin when cleansing.

Easy Pedicure at Home

11:52 PM      No Comment    107 views

Whether you need to soften up your callused feet or you are looking for a day of pampering giving yourself a easy pedicure at home is the perfect solution. With a bit of time and a little effort you'll have silky feet and perfectly polished tootsies that will leave everyone envious.

Wash away your cares and erase the stress of the day with an at home pedicure. The perfect pedicure does not have to cost very much at all. Simply gather the materials listed below and perform these easy steps for great results.

easy-pedicure- (1)

Materials:

• Basin or tub
• Foot Soak, Epsom salt or bath salts
• Pumice foot stone
• Small brush
• Nail polish remover / cotton balls
• Nail polish
• Base coat for nails
• Top coat for nails
• Clippers
• File
• Orange wood stick (Cuticle stick)
• Lotion

easy-pedicure- (2)

If you find yourself surrounded by unavoidable stress factors day-to-day, wash your cares away with a pedicure! Just follow these easy steps.

Step 1: Begin to fill a basin (or your bathtub) with several inches of warm water. Add desired amount of foot soak, bath salts or Epsom salt so that it dissolves in the water as the tub fills.

Step 2: While the tub is filling, remove any old polish from your toes with nail polish remover and cotton balls. If necessary, clip and file nails to desired shape and length.

Step 3: Grab a good book or magazine, turn on some music, or just sit back and enjoy the warm water on your tired feet. Soak for as long as you like, but at least 5-10 minutes.

Step 4: Using the small brush, gently buff one foot first and then the other. This will help to remove some dead skin cells and also to soften your feet.

Step 5: Using a foot scrub (Freeman's makes a great one bare feet: Plum and Pumice foot scrub), massage the cream onto your feet, paying special attention to your heels and any rough spots. This will further soften and exfoliate.

Step 6: A pumice foot stone can work wonders for dry and rough feet! Use this inexpensive extra to eliminate remaining rough spots. Dip feet after this step.

easy-pedicure- (3)

Step 7: Remove both feet from the tub and dry feet with towel. Massage your favorite lotion onto them. (Some companies even have a line of foot massage lotions!)

Step 8: Using orange wood stick, gently push your cuticles back along the nail. They should be supple due to the soaking.

Step 9: If you wish to paint your toenails, you can use toe separators to facilitate the process. Apply a base coat of nail polish to fill in the ridges and uneven surfaces. Base coats are generally clear or slightly opaque and they help to strengthen the nail to avoid breakage.

Step 10: Choose your desired shade of nail polish and apply. Allow first coat to dry and repeat. (Hint: For touch-ups, dip a Q-tip in the nail polish remover and gently swab away the unwanted color.)

Step 11: Apply a crystal-clear topcoat to add shine and to protect color from chipping.

Step 12: Enjoy your smooth, soft feet and beautified toes! You are now ready to sport your favorite sandals or cozy up at home in your comfiest slippers. Whatever the occasion, your feet will look and feel great!

High Blood Pressure Treatment

09:17 PM      No Comment    53 views

What is High Blood Pressure:

High blood pressure (HBP) is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems. "Blood pressure" is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

If you have high blood pressure, this higher pressure puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels. Over time, this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke. High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease, and is closely linked to some forms of dementia.

{Awareness} How to Make Work Feel Effortless

Sometimes work can be a drag. You get caught up in trying to be more productive and suddenly your life turns into a series of to-do lists. You gauge your measure of success by how much you accomplish. You even determine how happy you allow yourself to be by how much you've gotten done in the day.

We spend a lot of time trying to find ways to be more productive. To do things faster, better, cheaper and spend our time more effectively. But instead of just doing more in less time, maybe we should focus on actually enjoying the work we're doing instead.

Here are 8 ways to make work seem like less of a chore and more like a gift:

  1. Follow your natural rhythms. A lot of the time I resent working is because I'm trying to force myself to do something I don't feel like doing. Naturally there will always be some things you're not crazy about doing (like cleaning the toilet). But how often do you force yourself to work more, when you really want to relax? When you force yourself to work when you've promised yourself a break, you'll likely just end up distracting yourself with other things and put off working. Then you get stressed and end up resenting work. Instead, follow your natural rhythms. When you feel like working, work. When you don't, don't. Don't over complicate things.
  2. Do, don't think. I'm going to stay true to this point and not think about writing something elaborate. Just do, stop thinking about it. Fail, make corrections later.
  3. Don't put sugar in your tank. You wouldn't put sugar in your gas tank right? It doesn't make much sense to fill your body up with unhealthy fuel either. If you don't have the energy to get the work you need to done, work will feel forced.
  4. Remove hidden roadblocks. What's making you avoid working? What's making your work seem like drudgery rather than joyful? It might have something to do with your beliefs about yourself. Maybe you believe you're not good enough, smart enough or don't have enough experience. Question your beliefs about what you can and can't do.
  5. Only do your best. Work can easily become a chore when you're trying to constantly be perfect. The truth is, some of your ideas might not be so great. Others will be mind blowing. If you can accept that and just do your best, you stop judging yourself. Guess what it feels like when you're no longer picking over everything you do with a fine toothed comb? It feels extremely liberating. It feels like you can actually enjoy your experience, rather than worrying about how everything is going to turn out. That is working effortlessly.
  6. Act from your gut. When you think you have a great idea, believe it. Follow it. Chase it until you're out of breath and can barely hold yourself up. Because if you don't trust yourself, you'll regret it later. The best way to live is to follow your intuition and trust life. If nothing else, trust yourself. Because if you can't trust yourself, how can you trust your mistrust? That's not very smart is it?
  7. Focus on what matters. Our minds are constantly pulling us in different directions. We have to wash the cat, buy more apple cinnamon oatmeal, finish writing that resignation letter to your no-longer-boss at your dead-end job, and all sorts of other things. We have a tendency to follow what's urgent instead of what's important. In order to get the important things done, we have to be ruthless at removing distractions. If it takes bringing a laptop (or notepad) to a cafe to write your grandiose novel, then do that.  Avoid the vacuum of minutiae urgency. Remove all distractions so you can focus on the important things. I would much rather spend 4 hours working on an important project, then 4 hours spinning my wheels and scratching my head trying to figure out what I did today.
  8. Refuse to do what you don't want to do. I often avoid working because I'm trying to do things I think I "should do." I think I should read more because it will make me smarter. I think I should buy new clothes because it will make me cooler. I think I should work on this project because it will be good for my resume. Forget what you think you should do (except maybe… paying your rent). Do what you want to do. Other people will understand. In fact, they'll probably envy you.

Let me choose my way…

The monsoon has passed. Leaves ripped by rain and wind float on the water of the river. Bala is watching them follow the course of the water, sailing like flying butterflies. The monsoon has passed. Soon it will be winter.

Bala often comes to play by the river. Her family lives a little further, on the edge of the village.

Before, she used to run up here with her sister Lali and Tarun, her dear little brother. They competed in a race and it was often Bala who won it. Then, Tarun built palaces made of earth while the sisters contemplated the river. They told each other the stories of the prince who would come one day to pick them up in a turquoise and golden boat. He would take them. And they would live together fabulous adventures around the world.

But that was before. Before Lali had left the house, at the beginning of the monsoon.

Bala kneads a ball of red land thicker than a mango. Lali, her beloved older sister, had moved to her husband´s house.

While burying her fingers in the clay and molding the ball by rolling it on the grass, Bala wonders why those we love have to go away so soon.

When the ball is ready, round and perfect, Bala lays it on the floor in front of her. Toshan, the son of the socks merchant, runs towards Bala. He sees the red, round, unique and perfect ball. He laughs, leaps and smashes it, with all the might of his dirty heels.

He laughs and flees. Bala sees him go away. She lowers her head and a tear slides down her cheeks, slowly, vanishing in the smashed ball.

The river continues to run, a mixture of mud and leaves. The monsoon is over.

It happened on a Wednesday, a favourable, propitious day, the birth day of Lord Krishna. Bala remembers it well ... The family had chosen that date for the wedding of her sister Lali.

Because she was already thirteen, Lali would never wear children´s clothes again, would never play cricket again. Bala thought that thirteen was a normal age to play cricket, but the family said that at thirteen girls had to marry. So, Lali wrapped a sari around the body. It wasn´t very easy, but her mother helped her. She was so beautiful in her ceremonial sari! In his tailor workshop, the father had chosen the richest fabric for his daughter. He embroidered it with love and pride, once Lali was his eldest daughter, his dear daughter.

Bala would also like to wear a beautiful sari, but the time hadn´t come yet. The father had offered her a dress, earrings and two necklaces in gold, which made her forget the sari. Father, mother and Tarun, her younger brother, also had new clothes, and the whole family went to town for Lali´s wedding party. They ate lots of delicious food, rice cups and fine spices. They drank fragrant lassis and fruit juices. Everything was wonderful!

Sitting on a step, Bala had loosened the sandals that were too tight, while she watched Lali cover her head with the tip of her sari in front of strange men, as women do. Bala had rubbed her sore ankles and wondered what had changed since the day before: had the meal with a thousand flavours, the wedding procession, the musicians and the dancers, turned her sister into a woman? Bala had asked her mother, who smiled:

"The day will come, Bala, when you will hide yourself behind a sari."

It was a Wednesday, a good day, a propitious day. When the sun rose, Lali was still a child, but at night the roots of her hair were painted vermilion. On her forehead a point shone, a red dot. A sign of protection, devotion, a sign of submission.

Now Bala is not sure if she likes Wednesdays.

The leaves disappear in the river water and the air gets cooler when the night falls.

Then winter came.

Bala helps the mother. She prepares tea for her dad and cooks the mashed lentils. On the banks of the river the land is dry. Bala doesn´t knead it anymore. Sitting on the trunk of a fig tree with huge roots, she lets her black eyes follow the sun reflections on the water. She thinks of Lali, living in the city, and she misses her. She also thinks about her friend Ashna, who promised to pick her up the following morning. Ashna is the best at writing and reciting at school. Bala would like to sing like her, but her voice is as hoarse as a tight string zither.

A tree trunk floats down the river. Bala wonders where it comes from, from which forest or garden. The trunk floats like a flying bird. Bala rises in order to see it better. It´s a boat! Bala manages to see a hull of pale wood and white sails, light as the silk thread the spider weaves. She sees no one on board; the boat seems to slide down the river alone. What if it were the prince who she and her sister had once waited for? What if he had come, now that her sister was no longer there?

The vessel approaches the shore.

It beaches, noiseless, a few metres away from Bala. The child rises with a sinking heart. She runs to the boat and asks:

"Is anyone there?"

As nobody answers, Bala raises a very light veil. The sun penetrates inside the boat of cedar wood. Lying on a thin mattress adorned with a fabric of silver flowers, a lady sleeps. Her golden skin reflects the light and she uses her slender hands as a cushion. Bala holds her breath. The woman opens her eyes and stares at the child:

"What are you doing here? Where am I?"

A Jelly Bean for Halloween

The bag of assorted candies was ready, and I´d been looking forward to visits from pint-sized goblins. But Halloween morning, my arthritis flared up, and by evening, I could barely move. I couldn´t possibly answer each knock on the door to distribute the goodies, so I decided to fasten the candy bag to the door and watch the parade of trick-or-treaters from my darkened living room.

The first to arrive was a ballet dancer with three little ghosts. Each picked out a sweet in turn. When the last tiny hand emerged full-fisted, I heard the ballerina scold: "You´re not supposed to take more than one!" I was pleased big sister would play conscience for the little one.

Princesses, astronauts, skeletons and aliens followed. More children showed up than I had expected. The candy was running low, and I was about to turn off the porch light when I noticed four more visitors. The three oldest reached into the bag and pulled out Hershey bars. I held my breath, hoping there would be one left for the tiny witch. But when she pulled out her hand, all it held was a single orange jelly bean.

Already the others were calling, "C´mon, Emily, let´s go. There´s no one home to give you more." But Emily lingered an extra moment. She dropped the candy in her bag and then paused, facing the doors. Deliberately, she said, "Thank you, house. I like the jelly bean."

Then I watched her scamper away to join her fellow trick-or-treaters. One dear little witch had cast her spell on me.

Sir/Madam,

We are a group of people with some experience in the area of storytelling and we would like to share our project – The Joy of Reading – with everyone who is in touch with children and young people in general but above all with everyone that enjoys reading.
This project consists of sending stories for free on a weekly basis. So this particular e-mail and the ones that will follow it in the next weeks are intended to share some small stories with you. All the stories we send have some values within: respect for nature, tolerance, tenderness, responsibility, solidarity and many more. They all aim at developing the reading skills among young people, as well as allowing some moments of reflection and dialogue about topics connected with human values, which seem to have been somewhat forgotten in these times of materialism and hedonism.
We thank you for your attention and hope you will welcome this project (which, it is important to say, does not have any profitable aims).
If you know anyone interested in receiving the weekly stories by email, let us know by sending their emails to us.
Please let us know your opinion about the project.

Yours faithfully
The Pedagogical Team
