Japan rewards MEXT research scholarships to Pakistani students

 Thursday 24 March, 2016

Karachi: Government of Japan has granted MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan) research scholarships for Masters and PhD degrees for the academic year 2016 to eight Pakistani postgraduate students along with an aim of providing them an opportunity to chase higher education in their respective fields at the best and top rated universities in Japan.
An orientation was organized on Sunday for the two Pakistan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Japan scholarship students at the Japanese Consulate in Karachi.
The Japanese consul-general Akira Ouchi said "I would like to present my heartiest congratulations to Amena Rehman from Karachi and Asad Ali from Quetta for being successfully nominated as research aspirants for the scholarship programme this year".
He also expressed his expectation that both of the scholarship holders will not just continue their studies but will also act as a strong bridge of friendship between Pakistan and Japan.
Ouchi also added that he hoped these two selected candidates will utilize their innovative ideas and expertise for the development of Pakistan.
While conversing Ouchi said that he wished more Pakistani aspirants would apply for these scholarships and go to Japan to study in order to develop their understanding of Japan and make friends along with the Japanese people who will further promote the mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

Amena Rehman, who did her Bachelor's in architecture field from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, said she is so happy that she has been given a chance to continue her further studies in Japan.
She has been working at Aga Khan University as an architect and plans on doing a research programme in metropolitan design and engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
"Actually this is my dream that come true, as it has been my dream since I was a young to study in Japan," she added.
On the other hand, Asad Ali is working as a teacher at Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences and has done his Bachelor's in IT from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).
He said he was pleased that he had been nominated to study in a country like Japan. He explained that he plans to chase a master's degree in Information Technology from Tohoku University. Both the students promised to come back to Pakistan and serve the nation along with the knowledge that they will gain after studying abroad.
Large numbers of Pakistani aspirants have returned to Pakistan after attaining their PhD and Master's degrees in Japan. Currently, they are working in academia, government and private zones and have made noteworthy contributions to the development of Pakistan in different fields.
Japan grants graduate and postgraduate fully funded scholarships to Pakistani students annually and also a lot of short-term scholarships and training courses every year.
