Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal loves coal. Tell him why he should love forests instead. Click here.
Dear urvashi,

This is getting exciting. I delivered 34,000 petitions to Finance Minister and head of the Group of Ministers, Pranab Mukherjee’s office.[1] We will be meeting him soon.

Minister of Coal Sriprakash Jaiswal however, does not like forests. He wants to mine coal anywhere its found, including under India's remaining forests. [2] Communities dependent on these forests, and wildlife like tigers, leopards and elephants living here don’t matter to him.

If the coal ministry prevails we will lose a lot of our remaining forests. We need to take our next step to show the Group of Ministers (GoM), especially the coal minister, that forests must be a No Go for mining. The GoM is scheduled to meet again soon. [3] We have time till then to do everything possible to keep our forests safe.

Here’s a creative and effective way to get our message across:

You have to show Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal why India's forests should be a No Go for mining.

Submit a photograph, drawing, a letter or a message telling him why India's forests need to be protected. I will send these to him. Lots of messages and images will help make him realize the support forests have and that they need to be saved.

There is no need to destroy our forests especially when there is clean renewable energy which can reduce our dependence on coal. [4] Once destroyed, forests can never be restored to their original state.

One ministry’s greed can cause immense destruction. Minister Jaiswal needs to know that there is huge support for India’s forests. Tell him why our forests are a No Go for mining.

Thanks a billion!
