| The observations made by Delhi High Court, with regard to running the affairs of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, as reported by TOI dated 2/05/2011, is no less than a sort of indictment of the mindset of those who are saddled with the powers to run the show. It is a pointer to the melee that has engulfed the high profile prominent organizations carrying the tag of the very name of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation, and are supposed to work for the promotions and propagation of his ideals, by translating the same in their own actions and deeds as Gandhiji had said that my life is my message, and owe a moral obligation towards the people at large to reflect the same. No wonder, it is just the tip of the iceberg. Here is a call from the High Court, that the last syllable in the word Gandhi, calls for an honest and serious introspection, with a capital 'I', for inward looking to get connected with the very first syllable 'G' i.e. God sitting inside. Gandhiji always believed that Truth is God. Goodwill of the Gandhiji's name and the values that are associated with it are the one and only asset that cannot be allowed to be undersold or destroyed. It is a fundamental question of righteousness and one cannot escape the scrutiny howsoever holy or mighty or so one might claim to be. It appears that now-a-days, the so-called Gandhians, instead of engaging themselves in following the Gandhian ideology based on truth, are more interested in misusing it for other purposes, as is reflected from the aforesaid observations made by the Hon'ble Delhi High Court, during the hearing of a litigation contested by Gandhi Samark Nidhi. This is just not only a single incident, there are other organizations as well in the line, carrying the sanctified name tag of Gandhi, existing in the very capital and are grinding their own acts by exploiting the very sentiments of the people by claiming to associate themselves with the name and fame of Mahatma Gandhi. The example of two such organizations can straight away cited herewith. In this respect, I have stood solo by taking up the cudgels single handedly on the issue to fight against their unashamed pronouncement wherein a few high profile retired careerists/individuals/self-seekers, having nothing to do with the promotion and propagation of Gandhian Values during their career opportunities, gathered together boasting to call themselves 'Gandhians' in the name of 'Gandhian Satyagraha Brigade' unabashedly abrogated to themselves the very authority to modify and dilute the gravity of most critical Gandhian Values aka Guidelines, by contriving the same to suit their own conveniences, by process of their mental ingenuity, through the jugglery of the words by audaciously branding them as 100 Years Old. If so why they want to be called Gandhian? What is their constraint/majboori? What is their credibility? Why this double speak? Is it not a straight away act of deceipt to exploit the very sentiments of the people in the very name of Gandhiji? Is it not throwing dust in the eyes of the Public? Similarly, the Delhi Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, a decentralized unit of the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, clandestinely agreed to sell its property not only in black money, and thus have not only indulged in tax evading activities, but also in the promotion thereof too, under the cover of the garb of the sanctity of the reputation of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi. Is it not perfidious? Does all this not lead to the most bizarre point of, 'Is it not the duty of the Government to step in to intervene in the matter in the larger public interest to curb the tendency of taking the people for a ride through such wrongful activities and prevent the reputation of the name of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation from being polluted and /or tarnished in such unscrupulous manner?' Does it not sets in a program of writing on the wall that not in very distance future we ourselves with the complicity of the State are going to destroy his values, and then no doubt the very name and fame of the Father of the Nation, will go into oblivion? A subtle and intelligent way to deliberately set in a program which would eventually gravitate to focus on playing a critical role in unfolding a future that will bring into effect Gandhiji's second assassination, albeit through such corrupt practices in the high profile public domain, who are supposed to be purer then pure by refraining from using unclean means. Not only their physical occupation, but also their mental occupation should be neat, clean and pure. Their objects of thought should be in good taste. "I am pained to see the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi acting as an ordinary litigant. No effort appears to have been made at any stage to resolve the matter amicably," said Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, while dismissing the trust's plea against an industrial adjudicator's order asking it to reinstate an employee and pay him all his financial dues. "Nobody appears to have applied his mind as to whether the matter should be litigated or not. The litigation is being carried on for the sake of litigation," Justice Endlaw said, disapproving of the Gandhian body's "penchant" to move court against its employee simply to "frustrate" a judicial order. The trust, engaged in spreading Gandhian ideas, had moved the high court challenging an industrial tribunal order, which had asked it to reinstate its utensil cleaner S Chandran. Employed since 1971, Chandran was meted out the punishment of compulsory retirement for professional misconduct in March 1999 as he had allegedly written a five-page cyclostyled "derogatory and defamatory" letter to the trustees of the organization, its executive committee members and also to certain other persons. Aggrieved with the punishment, Chandran had filed a civil suit and the civil judge in 2005 had directed him to approach industrial tribunal, which gave its order in his favour. |
