Academic Colonization & De-Colonization Keynote Lecture Delivered at Uberoi Foundation Uberoi Foundation of Dharma Studies invited me as keynote speaker at their annual conference whose theme was "Decolonizing India Studies". Disagreeing with the prior speaker, who had advocated that we use Western hermeneutics and Juedo-Christian categories in order to boost the study of Dharma in the academy, I argued that such an approach would re-colonize us rather than de-colonize us. My talk analyzed the wide range of mechanisms of colonization that are alive today, in order to explain how to de-colonize. |
