This was an important seminar held at one of India's major centers of traditional learning. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts personally supported this and attended the entire event; and separately we had private discussions about his interest to collaborate with me on establishing a center for inter-cultural studies at BHU. I am very supportive of such an initiative. After my talk on the book, there were four well-known scholars of Banaras who responded. Two were senior Indian scholars of the tradition, and two were foreign born scholars who have each lived for over twenty years in India studying the Indian traditions. Naturally, their views varied. Following their comments, I gave my response, and then we engaged the audience with Q&A. [Disappointment: The video recording arranged by the local organizers was done by a professional company, but they brought a home camcorder as their only equipment!!!] |
