Hi urvashi,
![]() | |
Join hands with lakhs of people to prevent the creation of BRAI. |
Our government wants to help foreign corporations, like Monsanto, dump genetically modified (GM) food on our plate. They want to create a Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) which will approve GM crops, without even considering your opinion or mine.
BRAI is engineered to promote GM crops and it will act as the sole authority to approve them in the country [1]. Genetic modification of crops is a dangerous technology, being opposed by countries all over the world.
Right now, protesters are assembling outside Parliament in Delhi to show the government that we oppose the BRAI bill and corporate takeover of our food and farming. You can join hands with them virtually and make the fight even stronger.
The BRAI bill was introduced, rather slyly, in the Budget session of Parliament in 2013.[2] Right now, it’s being reviewed by a Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests. Once the Committee submits its report, the government will be eager to present this bill in the Monsoon session of Parliament in August.
This is your chance to make sure that our right to eat safe and healthy food is not taken away by foreign multinational seed corporations. If more people protest against the BRAI bill, the government will think twice before tabling it.
We've saved our food before,[3] let's do it once again!
Thanks!
Neha Saigal
