I was honored to be the Chief Guest at a major event in Mumbai's Y.B. Chavan Auditorium, on January 26, 2014. This was the release of a very important new film on the History of Yoga before a prestigious audience of eminent industry and community leaders. The documentary has been made by Dr. Deepika Kothari and her husband Ramji Om, the result of many years of research and filming in 200+ locations across India. I am unaware of any comparable work on this subject. In my address as the chief guest, I pointed out some of the widespread distortions of yoga and its history, the causes and implications. Given that this film was funded by eminent individuals from mainstream society, it is a hopeful sign that such individuals will continue to sponsor similar works concerning our rich heritage.
