Video of Talk - Click Video of Q&A - Click I used the recent opportunity to speak at Indus Univ in Ahmadabad to discuss India's Grand Narrative. (The talk is mostly in Hindi.) The issue of Grand Narrative became an important theme in my tour, as I realized how uncomfortable many Indian "intellectuals" felt about the very question. For instance, at a closed-door discusison with the new batch of Indian Foreign Service officers, I discovered that many of them found the very notion of a unified Indian narrative to be undesirable, and even threatening to minorities. At another closed-door talk before thinkers on national affairs, about 50% felt that there was no such thing and the very project of constructing such a narrative was sinister. On the other hand, India's students and youth find the topic very gripping and important. I plan to address this issue even more frequently. One example of discussing this with students is my talk given at Indus University followed by Q&A. The occasion was the release of my new book in Ahmadabad. I invite you to watch and form your own opinions of the issue. Video of Talk - Click Video of Q&A - Click |
