Dear Colleagues,
The December 2104 issue of Bioethics Links, the CBEC newsletter, is now available at the following link:
http://siut.org/bioethics/NewsletterDecember2014.html
Even as we grieve with the entire nation at the collective and irreconcilable loss of our children at the hands of the Taliban in Peshawar earlier in the month, with heavy hearts we have endeavored to bring out our newsletter as scheduled. We realize that education is our greatest weapon to fight back these forces of evil, and Bioethics Links is our effort to keep on trying to spread enlightenment.
The lead article in this issue is by Pakistani innovator and aeronautical engineer, Raja Sabri Khan, who manufactures drones. In his article he talks about the productive and peaceful uses to which the drone technology can be put to use, instead of the predatory, destructive uses which have brought infamy to the whole concept of drones. CBEC alumnus from the Class of 2010 and a General Surgeon, Nida Wahid Bashir shares a short story in which she writes about dimensions far beyond just medical while managing a patient. This issue of the Bioethics Links carries a follow up of the CBEC external review that took place in May 2014, describing the impressions and recommendations of the reviewers. This issue also carries reports of workshops conducted by CBEC faculty in Larkana, Sindh and in Quetta, Balochistan, the latter as part of the National Bioethics Committee training initiatives. Also included is a report on the participation of CBEC faculty at the National Bioethics Conference in Bangalore, India.
As always, we value your feedback and comments.
