MoU signed to teach Chinese in Sindh schools

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese education department of Sichaun province for teaching Chinese language in the schools of Sindh.

The ceremony was held at the Sindh Assembly building attended by the provincial education minister Nisar Khuhro and Consul General of China Mayaou, among other officials.

The accord was signed between Sindh Secretary Education Fazalullah Pechucho and China Education Department vice Director General Liu Dong.

According to the accord, Chinese will be made a compulsory subject from class VI and above in all of Sindh's schools within three years, whereas students learning the language will also gain extra marks, scholarships. Students who pass the subject till matriculation and other higher classes shall also be given opportunities to visit China for education and skills training.

Teaching the Chinese language needed a special training to teachers, students, scholars, and other staff members, which would be done on an exchange basis, said Khuhro.

He added that in order to develop and manage joint activities as part of the accord, Education Department's Additional Secretary Rehan Balouch would coordinate with the Chinese Education Department.
