Shaheen Research Group (SRG) is organizing a Two Day Hands on Workshop "Mastering Qualitative Data Analysis Using NVivo" on 30th and 31st May, 2015 in Hotel Crown Plaza, Islamabad. The workshop will focus on using various applications of qualitative analysis software (NVivo), which can analyze text, pictures, and video/audio recordings systematically and efficiently for advanced levels of classification, synthesis and theory building. The workshop will provide opportunity to participants to develop skills of qualitative data analysis.

 

NVivo is a Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) computer software package produced by QSR International. It has been designed for Qualitative Researchers working with very rich text based or multimedia information, where deep level of analysis is required. NVivo is used predominantly by academic, government, health, and commercial researchers across diverse range of fields. NVivo is intended to help users organize and analyze non-numerical data. The software allow users to classify, sort and arrange information; examine relationship in the data; and combine analysis with linking, shaping, searching and modelling.

Introducing NVivo and setting up a project

·         Introducing NVivo work space (interface views)

·         Creating and navigating around a project

Importing and Coding Documents

·         Importing documents including PDFs

·         Creating memos and annotations

·         Introducing 'nodes' to collect data to support the themes, topics or ideas you identify in the data

·         Working with node folders

Working with your themes and ideas and shaping your findings

·         Viewing your emerging themes, topics or ideas and their content

·          Understanding how and where content is being assigned and fine tuning this

·         Moving, merging and aggregating your themes, topics or ideas

Importing and coding other items

·         Importing image and media sources

·         Importing datasets and web data

Exploring your data

·         Using text analysis tools including word frequency and text search queries

·         Storing and exporting your results

Classifying and Categorizing Data

·         Importing "classifying" or categorical data such as demographic items

·         Associating classifying data with your text, PDF, dataset, image or media sources

Grouping your data: collections and links

·         Organizing your data into 'sets' and search folders

·         Finding items in your project quickly and easily

·         Creating other types of links in your data

Exploring your data

·         Running coding based queries including coding, matrix coding, and group queries

·         Saving queries and storing your results

Models and relationships

·         Building and working with models as a way to display ideas

·         Creating and showing relationships in your data

Visualizing your data

·         Creating two and three dimensional charts to illustrate findings

·         Presenting query results as 'tree maps' and 'word trees' to show patterns in your data

Kashmala Adnan

(Senior HR Analyst, United Nation World Food Program)

 

Kashmala is a master trainer for Qualitative Research Analysis using NVivo. She has conducted multiple training and workshops for researchers and university students both classroom and online, helping participants conduct their qualitative analysis using NVivo software. The training has helped researchers and postgraduate students to structure their project data, working with themes/ ideas and shaping the findings, analysing complex sources of information, classifying and categorizing data, building models and visualizing data by using reporting approaches and assessing findings of the research project. 

 

Kashmala also provides development and corporate sector consultations for HR Projects and Training on various soft skill and technical tools including innovative business solutions & services. She is an HR Professional having 8+ years of specialized experience in L&D, C&B, BPR and Recruitment. She has worked with USAID, Warid and is currently working as Sr. HR Analyst at United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP).

 

Among her achievements include, Budget monitoring, Sindh Flood Emergency hiring of 100+ staff, support of HR ops in three corporate emergencies of UN-WFP, Business process re-engineering, Launch of new Payroll system, design and implementation of an online HRMI and trained SAP HR Local Process Expert for Asia.
