Centre to treat bone deformity
LAHORE: The Lahore General Hospital has established a new treatment centre for newborns suffering from deformity of bones at its orthopaedic department.
The LGH administration made the announcement at a ceremony organised in the wake of the "World Clubfoot Day".
Prof Anjum Habib Vohra, Prof Irfan Mahboob, Dr Naveed Ahmed and Dr Mudassar Siddique also attended the programme besides nursing staff and medical students.
Speaking on the occasion, the medical experts said as many as 500,000 children fell prey to this disease annually all over the world but their parents remained unaware in most of the cases. They said the parents noticed it very late when long treatment process was required.
The bones of new born babies are frail, broken and deformed with weak muscles in case of Clubfoot disease. The experts say that if such children are hold up recklessly, their bones can be broken.
The ratio of bone deformity is on rise all over the world, including Pakistan. These children are treated with Ponestti technique wherein surgery was not required.
