Rape, then 'mediate'

A court just ordered a rape survivor to 'compromise' with her rapist. She wants justice not settlement -- but both the state and the judiciary have betrayed her. Eminent lawyers are now standing up for her rights. So let's back their call for zero compromise for this crime. Mohan of rape and sentenced him to 7 years in prison, but he appealed to the Madras High Court. He never served his term, and now, the HC judge has granted him interim bail, saying that he should 'mediate' with the rape survivor as a "free man"! Women have to battle patriarchy in all institutions. Instead of helping her, even the Tamil Nadu Women's Commission chief has come out and said there is "no question of right or wrong" in this case and that the survivor should tolerate and compromise! But the outcry of citizens has been heard several times before and this case is gathering attention across India. So let's keep up the fight.
