YAISHWARYAJ: {Awareness} Annual Surgical Meeting of the Aga Khan University

The Department of Surgery is organizing its first 'Annual Surgical Conference' in the Aga Khan University Karachi, Pakistan on the 13th and 14th of November 2015.

The theme of the conference; "The Impact of Surgical Complications". The first day involves several pre-conference workshops and discussions on issues as diverse as ethics, law, morbidity and mortality, physicians rights, responsibilities of healthcare providers, hospital administration, media, etc) working hours and training.

The second day is the main conference with two eminent surgeons as Keynote speakers.

Consistent with the theme, our keynote speaker this year is Mr Henry Marsh (CBE). Mr Marsh is a Senior Neurosurgeon in UK, and is the author of the bestselling memoir addressing surgeons and complications, 'Do No Harm', which has now been translated into 17 languages. He is also the subject of two award winning BBC Documentaries , an award-winning storyville film, 'The English Surgeon' and has received the 'Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, among various other accolades and honors.

The other keynote speaker is Mr. Leslie Hamilton, a cardiothoracic surgeon in UK. He has held various leadership positions in UK and Europe. Apart from being a cardiothoracic surgeon he has a law degree and is an Assistant Coroner in North East. He has been President of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of UK, Dean of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Training Program of UK, Chairman board of examiners of Cardiothoracic surgery in UK and a Clinical tutor in UK and Europe. He has published many scientific articles.

The program is highly interactive and involves people from the health care profession, lawyers, media and public in general.
