In 48 hours, PM Modi could break the deadlock in the climate talks if he can get rich countries to commit long-term funds to keep the poorest safe from climate disaster. He meets the 20 most powerful nations' leaders this weekend. Let's give him a mandate to demand action now and make India a hero. Sign now: | Dear friends across India, When PM Modi flies to a summit of the 20 most powerful world leaders in 48 hours he could be seen as a laggard, or as a world leader championing a safe future for all of us. We can help him make the right choice.Scientists say that India and other countries will definitely face increasingly deadly storms and droughts unless the world agrees a new climate plan, now. But, talks are stuck as rich countries won't commit funding to ensure the survival of people in developing countries on the front lines of climate disaster. PM Modi could break the deadlock by shaming rich governments to commit the cash. The PM understands climate and if enough of us give him a mandate to demand action now, he could make India a hero on the global stage.

Industrialised countries have already committed to stop funding fossil fuels and to provide $100 billion to poorer countries per year by 2020. Contributions are growing, but vulnerable countries say they won't sign a global deal next month unless funding is guaranteed to expand after 2020, when scientists say climate disasters will accelerate.
Industrialised countries say they have no more money to offer vulnerable populations -- but the International Monetary Fund recently found that governments spend an incredible $10 million per minute subsidising fossil fuels! Let's expose this deceit.
As someone who's written a book about climate change, and as the leader of a rapidly emerging economy, PM Modi can play a key role in bridging the divide between different groups of countries. The Modi government recently committed to ramping up solar and wind power and now it needs to bring in a long-term plan to phase out dirty coal and move to 100% clean energy.
If we all join this call we can encourage PM Modi to challenge rich countries' spurious arguments and breathe life into the talks right now, so we can get a fair and ambitious planetary climate deal in Paris. Click to join in:
