Stories for Everyone – stories on Facebook
We would like to invite you to take part in a new project called "From Stories to Books".
The Stories for Everyone Team have been, for some time, gathering and selecting books that provide some sort of reflection on the fundamental ethical principles of
our society, such as solidarity, courage, honesty, respect for differences and a sense of justice, matters that have deserved the attention of writers from various
nationalities.
Therefore, the Stories for Everyone Team proposes to send, together with the usual weekly stories, and also free of charge, full texts of selected books.
In case you are interested in receiving each week, by email, a chapter of an extensive reading book, all you have to do is send an email to
books@storiesforeveryone.com or stories4ev@gmail.com, or reply to this email by writing the following sentence in the subject field:

The day Gogo went to vote
My gogo is very, very old. When I ask her how old she is, she says, "I am older than this township. When I was born, there were no cars or airplanes."
When I come home from school, my mother and father are still at work, so Gogo takes care of me. Gogo calls me her little tail because I follow her everywhere. She lets me carry her beautiful blue cloth bag, in which she keeps her important things.
Sometimes she tells me to open it, and I find sweets inside. When my front teeth fell out, she put them in the bag. The next morning she told me to look inside. My teeth had disappeared! Instead there was a two-rand coin inside. I took the money and bought a pair of pink earrings.
Because she was born in the olden days, Gogo knows a lot of things that happened long ago. She tells me many stories that her gogo told her about how our ancestors lived before the white people came. She also tells me about the place where our family came from and how we are all related to each other.
One day my father and mother came home very excited because all the main political parties had agreed to the election dates for a new government. Father explained that April 26, 1994, would be a special voting day for old people and those who were very sick.
Everyone else would vote on April 27 and April 28.
Those two days would be holidays, and people would not have to go to work.
"Good, I will vote with the other old people on April 26," announced Gogo.
We were all shocked when Gogo said this, because she never goes out of the yard. She will not even go to church. The priest has to come to our house to pray with her.
That is why we were so surprised when Gogo said she went to vote. "We cannot take you to vote on April 26 because we will be at work," said Father.
"Then I will vote with you on the 27th," said Gogo.
"How will you go to the polling booth?" Father asked Gogo.
"The same way you will go there," replied Gogo.
"But we are going by bus. We cannot have you traveling on a crowded bus! The buses may even be too full on that day, and we may have to walk."

Stop picking on me
Bullies look just like everyone else
but they don´t act like everyone else.
Bullies enjoy hurting other people and
making them do what they say.
The only way they know how to get
what they want is by being cruel.
Bullies don´t always hurt your body, they can hurt
your feelings as well. A bully can make you feel
like it´s your fault that they are picking on you,
even though this isn´t true.
What about you?
Do you know anyone who is a bully?
What sort of things do they do?
Anyone can be a bully. It could be a boy or a girl,
a person on their own or in a gang.
It can even be an adult. A bully can pick on you or
leave you out of games and groups.
At some time in their lives, most people have hurt
someone else, without meaning to, by acting like a bully.
But some people act this way all the time.
Bullies never have a good reason for hurting other people. Often they pick on anyone who they think is
different from them.
Some bullies pick on people who are a different size from them or whose skin is a different colour. Some bullies will even pick on you because of the clothes you are wearing.
Anyone who acts like a bully has probably been bullied themselves, sometimes by other children.
