Dear friends

URGENT! In just hours over 100 countries could sign a new climate deal that could be the fastest way to slow global warming.

There is one problem - India is a laggard.

All of Africa, the EU, the US, and China are set to rapidly phase out a super-potent chemical 10,000 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. But PM Modi is playing hardball, even though the deal will give India's businesses a chance to leapfrog inefficient and polluting technologies, will help millions of Indians living with the risk of extreme climate change, and is a huge step for the whole planet.

Let's flood PM Modi with our messages and tweets right now and ask for a strong climate deal.

This is one of those 'are your serious?!?' moments. Scientists say to survive we can't let our planet warm by more than 2°C by 2100. This agreement alone will avoid 0.5°C of warming! It's a BIG deal!

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are chemicals used in fridges and air conditioners. Green tech alternatives already exist, and $80 million is on the table to help poorer countries, including India, implement this ambitious and crucial phase out.

But PM Modi is refusing to compromise in order to get some chemical bosses more money and time to keep selling planet-frying products. And it's critical they are stopped now because India is where HFCs are growing among the fastest. India has some of the best engineers in the world and some businesses are already moving forward -- this deal is a no-brainer!

After we pushed Modi at the Paris climate talks, he moved to sign up. Now India is a solar leader. Let's do it again, fast to get the best deal for India and the planet. Click below to send a message.

This year is on course to be the hottest year on record. This deal could not be more urgent, and nearly the whole world is finally ready. Let's show PM Modi the people of India want him to lead and win this massive game-changer for our planet.

With hope,

Alice, Iain, Luca, Fatima, Risalat and the rest of the Avaaz team.
