Plan to Attract Migrants to Rural Western Australia
People from culturally diverse backgrounds in Western Australia (WA) will be given the chance to move into town and take up opportunities of full employment, housing and education through the Regional Repopulation Plan released by the Shire of Dalwallinu.
The Regional Repopulation Plan is a working document developed by the community of Dalwallinu, including local residents and business operators. According to the Minister of Citizenship and Multicultural Interests John Castrilli, this plan is a comprehensive blueprint for the resettlement ofimmigrants in WA for humanitarian reasons.
"It provides for the probability of relocating a number of Burmese refugees to the Dalwallinu region as part of a pilot project to supply labour force for jobs that are ready and have been difficult to fill," said Mr Castrilli.
Last year, a local business owner from Wubin came to Castrilli's office to reveal the real challenge of labour shortages and looking for help.
Mr. Castrill has stated that "Presently in WA there are 30 local government communities that have experienced population decline over the past 10 years and this is a win-win situation for everyone".
"There will be opportunity to utilise under-used resources in the Dalwallinu area like schools and community centres impacted by a lack of population."
