First Announcement & Call for Abstracts

Message By Chairman Organizing Committee

It is my proud privilege to invite all members of orthopaedic community to its annual meeting – ORTHOCON 2011 scheduled to be held in the beautiful capital city, Islamabad.  Being the 25th meeting it would be the Silver Jubilee ORTHOCON and we would endeavor to make it a truly memorable one. This meeting is unique in the sense that one hospital or department is not organizing this moot; rather all orthopaedic departments of Rawalpindi- Islamabad hospitals have joined hands to make this moot a memorable one. With hospitals like Shifa International, CMH Rawalpindi, PIMS, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, DHQ hospital, Railway Hospital, NIRM, KRL, Quaid-i-Azam International hospital, Maroof hospital, CDA and Polyclinic hospital on board, this conference may be considered as the binding force in which all hospitals would co-host and welcome you. This meeting can hence be called a truly unifying event for the orthopaedic community of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The conference is scheduled in the second week of October 2011 when weather would be pleasant and autumn would have set in this picturesque town. This would be a wonderful opportunity for you to make new friends, rejuvenate old relationships and share your scientific experiences. In addition to get togethers and  social events we are planning to make this a truly scientific program. We have planned scientific sessions in a way that leading world authorities on different subjects would deliver key note lectures and share their views with our colleagues. The highlight of this conference is holding of eight pre-conference workshops which would be organized and accredited by international bodies. The conference theme is therefore, "Training for All". The workshops are intended mainly for post graduate students of your departments and the organizing committee would try to subsidize their registration to the maximum. The organizing committee has decided not to save any money but to spend all the proceeds for improvement of orthopaedic services in Rawalpindi- Islamabad and for education and training of the young generation. Since, seats would be limited for these workshops I would request you to register as early as possible to avoid disappointment. I would also appreciate if you could send your papers as per attached scientific program at you earliest so we can finalize the program at the earliest.

Islamabad Serena Hotel, the venue for the moot would provide an excellent place for all intended social and scientific program. With a large number of hotel rooms in Serena and Marriott and a large number of hotels & motels in close vicinity, we are sure that all delegates would be able to have a very comfortable stay during the moot. The organizing committee offers its earnest help to make your stay as comfortable as possible.  Once again on behalf of all of orthopaedic community of Rawalpindi Islamabad, I welcome you all to the Pak ORTHCON 2011 and hope you would find this event a truly memorable one.

Message by Chairman Scientific Committee

On behalf of Scientific Committee it is my honor to invite orthopedic surgeons of Pakistan to the scientific proceedings of 25th International Pakistan ORTHOCON. This is a great educational opportunity for all members of the community and would also provide an occasion to meet and socialize with your colleagues. 2011 ORTHOCON is being planned to make the scientific program at par with any international event in which quality of papers and experience of speakers would be par excellence.

The program has been divided into fourteen scientific sessions each with its own theme. Each session would start with a state of art lecture by an authority on the subject. We are requesting international speakers of highest repute to deliver these key lectures. After the state of art lectures we would include 4-5 papers of 10-12 minutes each from the country. We would appreciate if you could bring your scientific work as per the session so that at the end of each session the audience takes a clear message home.

In line with the theme of the conference "Training for All" we are planning to organize eight preconference workshops namely:

1.      AO SEC Workshop

2.      Spine Workshop

3.      Ilizarov Workshop

4.      Hip Arthrosplasty workshop

5.      Knee Arthroplasty Work

6.      Pelvic Surgery Workshop

7.      Arthrsocopy Workshop

8.      ATLS Workshop

These workshops would be held at the same venue and would be organized, run and accredited by the original faculty members. This would be a wonderful opportunity for residents to improve their technical skills. The organizing committee is mindful of the expensive registration fees of these workshops and would try to subsidize these workshops for the residents to its maximum. Since, these workshops would be run as per international standards the number of seats would be limited e.g. 24 for AO SEC workshop, 16 for ATLS etc. it is highly recommended that you register early to avoid disappointment.

The scientific committee would try to make ORTHOCON 2011 as a truly intellectually rewarding experience for you. This event cannot reach its desired goals without your whole hearted support and we would appreciate your positive suggestions for this. Please send your articles, papers and suggestions at your earliest so that your valuable ideas may be adjusted in the program. Hope to see you in October 2011 in Islamabad.
