Live Chat

Dear urvashi,

Click here to leave your questions on conservation of marine bio-diversity and livelihoods
Our oceans and seas are a treasure-trove of biodiversity and sustain millions of livelihoods. Excessive fishing and destructive development have negatively affected this ecological balance. So, how do we conserve this fragile ecology while protecting the right of fisher-folk using sustainable methods?

To resolve this question, I have been interacting with people around the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary in Orissa, home to sea turtles, dolphins and an important reservoir of fish. The fishing community cannot fish in the sanctuary, creating socio-economic problems for thousands of families in this area. Along with United Artists Association, Greenpeace surveyed fisher folk in different villages and conducted public hearings to address the issue of livelihoods for a community supported model of marine conservation.

Now that I am back, I’ll be more than happy to answer questions on conservation of marine bio-diversity and the livelihood work Greenpeace is doing in Orissa. As one of our most active supporters you can interact with me directly on Friday at 4 PM.

You can leave your questions here:

Here’s your chance to get answers and share your opinion about conserving marine bio-diversity and ensuring the livelihood of the fishing community. I am looking forward to all your questions and opinions. Don’t forget to log in on Friday for the live chat with me.

Thanks a billion!
