Hi Urvashi,
Today I am going to try and meet the Prime Minister and give him the petition that asks him to save the forests of Central India from coal mining. Over 240,000 have already shown their support for forests.
You still have time to join this movement.
Right now hundreds of people are asking the PM to meet me and take this petition from me directly. You can join them, once you sign the petition and show your support for the forests.
Coal mining in Central Indian forests is going to hurt important tiger corridors and deprive forest communities of their livelihood. [1] All this destruction is unnecessary especially when renewable energy [2] can help reduce our dependence on coal.
Quick join the movement to save forests in Central India from coal mining.
You can read more about this campaign below.
Thanks!

Hi Urvashi,
In less than three months, over 100,000 people have shown that they support forests and not coal mining. This month I will be taking these signatures to the Prime Minister, asking him to protect our forests in Central India from coal mining.
You can still sign the petition and show your support for the forests.
A lot has happened since we started this petition:
- Once the coal scam became public,[1] hundreds of us occupied social media and made junglistan.org the most tweeted link in the country that day.
- We added to the existing pressure on the government. They ordered an investigation into the scam [2] and cancelled some, but not enough, of the coal block allocations.[3]
- Around the same time, I set out to spend a whole month in the forest of Padmapur, which is threatened by coal mining.[4]
- Popular entertainment channel MTV aired my journey to the forests and took this issue to a lot more people. [5]
- While I was in the forests, two activists occupied trees outside the Coal Ministry’s office in Delhi. They asked the minister to end his greed for coal.[6]
- A few weeks back, the Adani group’s proposed coal project in the Lohara forests, in Chandrapur was rejected by Maharashtra Forest Department. This was a victory for the local organisations fighting to save their forests in Chandrapur. [7]
- Before I left the forests, the petition to save them crossed 100,000 signatures.
The next few weeks will be tremendously important in our fight to save our forests. We need to make the most of this time to create a big impact.
So ask the Prime Minister to stop all new coal block allocations and forest clearances until the coal scam has been investigated and there is a clear demarcation of areas that shouldn’t be mined.
Thanks!
Brikesh Singh
