Language of Service in Hindu Temples

Language of Service in Hindu Temples

Recently Canadian government released the census report about the languages spoken in Canada. According to this report Punjabi is the third largest language spoken in Canada after English and French.  In Canada about more than 4 times people speak Punjabi as compared to Hindi.

About 20 weekly Punjabi papers are published from Toronto, ignoring papers published from other cities in Canada. There is one daily Punjabi paper published from Toronto. Omni TV station broadcast Punjabi news from Monday to Friday.  Many more TV stations broadcast programs on Saturday or Sunday. From Friday midnight till Saturday midnight Vision television broadcast Punjabi programs non-stop for 24 hours. There is no TV station which broadcasts Hindi program on regular basis in Toronto, but there might be some programs which might broadcast programs in Hindi on weekends. There are not many radio stations which broadcast programs in Hindi while one can hear Punjabi programs for 24 hours on radio stations as one stations stops program other station starts its program in Punjabi.

There are 5 Hindi weekly papers in Toronto. No paper uses pure Hindi? Forget about pure Hindi there are not many Hindi words in Hindi papers as all advertisements are in English in all Hindi papers. Hindi papers give all advertisements, information and "Thank You" comments only in English.  Have a look

"HINDI TIMES HAS SUCCESSFULLY ENTERED THE 10TH YEAR OF PUBLICATION WITH THE SUPPORT OF ITS VALUABLE BUSINESS ASSOCIATES AND READERS" only in English

"WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR VALUED READERS AND ADVERTISERS" If the Hindi papers published from Canada or other cities of North America are to thank their Hindi readers in English then one wonders what is the need of having Hindi paper. Why don't they publish their papers in English? People who do not know Hindi will hardly pick up Hindi paper. For whom and with what purpose these Hindi papers convey their messages to their readers in English. Hindi papers have readers due to Hindi knowing people, then do readers deserve or need to be thanked in English? No Punjabi/ Chinese/ Japanese paper will say "Thank You" in English. Even temples give advertisements about service hours and other activities in English in Hindi papers. Temples have got the names of their temples like Adhyatmik Kendra, Shri Siddhi Vinayak, but spread English ignoring Hindi by giving all kinds of information in English.

In fact most of the Hindi papers published from Toronto are just more than sheets of advertising sheets.

All kinds of Hindi media use lots of Urdu and English words in Hindi and all kinds of Hindi papers fill many pages with filmy gossip rather than giving political news and analysis of national political and economic news. Hindi films do not write Hindi anywhere. Even name of Hindi film is not written in Hindi, then why Hindi films are promoted by Hindi media?  People should stop watching Hindi films as no where Hindi is written at all in Hindi films and moreover there is no Hindi in Hindi films as language of Hindi films is full of Urdu and English words.

Canada being a multi-lingual country there are people from many other countries of the world. Media people never analyse why Canadian government do not provide services in Hindi while services are provided in many other languages.  In many Canadian schools Punjabi is being taught as third language which is a credit course.

Hindi is not the National language of Bhaarat. Some people wanted to make Hindi as one of the official language of UNO. Then those people were told that as Hindi is not the national language of Bhaarat, it cannot be made the official language of UNO.

Even Supreme Court of Bhaarat has said that Hindi is not the national language of Bhaarat. It is just the official language for correspondence amongst states and with Centre.

Who is responsible that Hindi has not become the national language of Bhaarat.

There are thousands courses for foreign languages in Canadian colleges and Universities but nowhere Hindi is taught, while Punjabi is taught at many places, Why is it so? There are several reasons for the Durdasha of Hindi. No wonder, the Akbars, Babers, Tippus, Queen Victoria and King George became the masters and the Hindus consider themselves their slaves and still maintain that tradition of worshiping foreigners as the rightful rulers of Hindu-India.

Language of Service in Hindu Temples

There is one Ram mandir in Toronto in such a locality where lots of people of Bhaaratiya origin live. Here service is similar as is conducted in other temples, but in that temple all the service was conducted in English. Most of the leaflets in temples are only in English. Muslims or Sikhs would never conduct their services in English at their religious places.

As the area where temple is situated is mostly inhabited by Hindus who came from Bhaarat, in such case there is no need of service in English. On inquiry the priest said that there are some people from West Indies and they want service in English, moreover all the audience are comfortable with service in English. In some places where West Indies people have made a temple and mostly West Indies people visit those temples, even in those temples service is conducted in both English and Hindi.

By providing service in English in Hindu temple for Bhaaratiya audience, are not the temple authorities forcing the coming generation of Hindu people to learn only English and ignoring Hindi. Moreover below all the Murtis, name of Bhagwaan was written in English only, while only on the donation boxes both Hindi and English was written saying "please put the donation in this donation box".   Why it is when donation is needed, then Hindi is needed, otherwise there is no place for Hindi in some temples.

For the Mandirs who conduct their Services in English

Temples should be the biggest means of teaching and spreading Hindi/Sanskrit. If priests use English in their sermons and Hindi media uses lots of English words then Hindi can never get a respectful place in the world.

Consider countries like Korea, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Brazil and China. They have economies that are better than many than other countries. Their schools teach English, but employ their own mother tongues as the medium of instruction. Korea's population is smaller than Tamil Nadu's. Japan's, smaller than Bihar's. The Scandinavian countries are comparable, in population size, to Mayur Vihar, Thane, White Field or some other suburb in India. Their languages remain vibrant; they create new knowledge and literature in their own languages and produce Nobel Prize winners and world-beating companies. Of course, they also learn English, the de facto world language. Except in colonised India, nowhere do people believe that unless they abandon their mother tongue and embrace English as the sole language of instruction, their future is doomed.

Today, many
Indian languages are slowly dying. The best and brightest among the Bhaaratiya students only should learn English along with Bhaaratiya language. The elite and proficient  writers write poetry  usually in English. Their creativity will not nourish the roots of their mother culture. Great Indian languages whose proto-sounds have resonated with sense and sensibility for thousands of years will languish and die. Sounds implausible? Welsh is almost dead language. Irish writhes in its death throes. The print order for a book of poetry in Hindi, nominally the mother tongue of over 450 million people, is 500. But for Hindi films, Hindi poetry would probably be dead by now.
Every body is saying that English is universal language but English is only spoken in 10 - 20 countries of the 200 countries in the world, just because England ruled over many countries English is dominant language in our minds. The first thing what Japan did when it got independence was to burn down the English speaking schools and change their medium to Japanese. We were/ are not brave enough to do that but we should think in that direction

Having a foreign language as the medium of instruction leave the children emotionally scarred for life sapping away their confidence/common sense/natural communication skills/emotional intelligence. When we adopt a foreign language replacing a mother tongue we are like amputating our natural limbs and entering the battlefield of career/communication/interaction/writing/studying/literature etc. with an artificial leg. The ability to communicate effectively is a job requirement in almost all developed countries who have not replaced their mother tongues with a foreign language for law/legislation/ theatre/ medium of instruction in schools, universities, official and business communications/ scientific research etc. be they from the USA, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Sweden, Austria, Belgium or any other OECD countries. One French commentator has said that till education is not given in Bhaaratiya languages to Bhaaratiya people, Bhaarat cannot win any noble prize or any other international Award.

India is like Nigeria in Africa who has an abundance of dialects but they chose English for their schools, offices, businesses, courts, laws aping the British! Nigeria too produces English movies but nobody hears about them but only English movies from the USA/ UK/ Australia. Of course there are Indian English authors including Booker Prize winners. The Booker winners in the business of literature are like the brand ambassadors for the promotion of more English readers (literary consumers) only creating jobs in the UK/ USA/ Australia for their literary agents, publishers, replica makers, dictionary, story/poem publishers & poets, dramatists etc.

English is not our Bhaarat or Hindu country's language, so if we can learn to speak English so why we can't learn to speak Hindi language which is our official language? Now a days people are learning different - different countries languages like, German, French, Japanese, Mandrin etc so if we can learn these language so why not Hindi/ Sanskrit? If Hindi language will be our first language at every place like at work place, job ...  even in temples there will be no unemployment.  India is full of talented persons but because of only language barrier they can't grow.

Knowledge and Education are both separate things and both are required to be a good human, unfortunately our education system just educate us how to earn money how to be no one ....&..bla...bla... but it doesn't give us knowledge how to be a good human. We are mixing both the issues, for studies it could be in a global language but to really educate our children and give them right knowledge we should do it in our own language Hindi and Sanskrit.

According to some reports Hindi is the second most spoken language in the world, but some reports say it is on third place after Mandarin and English.  Hindi is the mother tongue of about 41.03 % people, and if we take into account people who understand Hindi as second language in Bhaarat, then about 75% people can speak and understand Hindi  in Bhaarat according to 2011 census. There are many people living in Nepal, Mauritius, Fiji, Surinam, Uganda, South Africa, Caribbean countries like Trinidad and Tobago, England, America, Canada, Australia and some other countries who understand Hindi and these people are about 6 – 8 million people. In spite of such large numbers, Hindi has no respect in the world as Bhaaratiya people do not use Hindi extensively. Business people and Hindi media are main culprits why Hindi is getting no respect in the world.

Hindi media people are mentally slave people and spread mental slavery through their media amongst Hindus. How many Chinese, Urdu and Punjabi papers express say Thanks to their readers in English?

The first duty of Hindi papers and Hindu Mandirs should have been to encourage people to learn Hindi, which can only be done by making Hindi visible all the time at all places and providing paper almost in 100 % in Devnagri script and by using Sanskrinist pure Hindi words. Hindi must be seen all the time and Hindi be heard all the time which would encourage people to learn Hindi. Hindi can be made visible by many such steps like; giving cast of Hindi films in Hindi, writing Hindi on the labels of all kinds of commercial products manufactured in Bhaarat, writing Hindi on the wrapping materials, writing Hindi on the name board of your shop, writing Hindi on the Billboards, writing Hindi on the sign boards of road's name etc.

Canadian government provides many kinds of services in Asian languages but such services are not available in Hindi. . It is due to mainly Hindi media people and temple authorities that they do not give any importance to Hindi so Candian government also ignores Hindi.

"The Poms (British) taught Indians really well to keep their head down."  Hindi media people should quit mental slavery and become free from their mental slavery and make other Hindus also free from mental slavery as Chinese and Japanese people are.

Temples are the places which should take initiative for spreading Hindi by all possible ways and conducting its services in Sanskrit/Hindi, by opening schools for teaching Hindi/Sanskrit. Hindi media people should use pure Hindi at every place, give advertisements in Hindi and should try to make Hindi visible at all places so that Hindi may get some recognisation in foreign countries as Punjabi has got reconisation in Canada
